EARLY DANCE PROGRAM
Please note: Unless otherwise specified, all of our classes are drop-off. All ages are as of Fall 2017.
PARENT & TOT
Age 18 months to 2.5 years, Toddler
Specifically designed for our youngest movers and shakers, this parent/ family supported class is the perfect introduction to Propel Dance Centre. Storytelling, song, props and finger-play are used to facilitate learning in a fun and creative way. This class will focus on developing gross motor skills and will help prepare them to transition into Early Dance 1. Come dance with your little one!
EARLY DANCE 1
Age 2 1/2 to 3, Toddler
With an imaginative approach, this class explores the fundamentals of movement. Classes are structured to develop gross and fine motor skills through teacher-lead exploration and play. Storytelling, song, treasure maps and props are used to facilitate learning in a fun and creative way. Students begin to build a sense of self through participating in both structured and open-ended exercises.
EARLY DANCE 2
Age 3 to 4, Pre-School/JK
This class offers a thoughtful balance of structure and play. Basic principles of ballet and contemporary dance are introduced into the curriculum while allowing students to continue to foster their creativity through open- ended exercises. Students build strength, flexibility, musicality and self-esteem as they explore the world of dance performance. Students begin to build a sense of community through shared experiences with their peers.
Ages 4-5, JK and SK
This class is designed to build on the fundamentals of classical ballet technique with ongoing opportunities for creative development. There is continued growth in physicality, musicality, flexibility, strength and performance. Students learn set exercises that are fun and engaging. Taught by highly qualified teachers with a Propel Dance Centre approach this class continues to promote body positivity and community, as well as celebrates student successes.
Ages 6-8, Grades 1 to 3 at school
This structured ballet class is based on classical ballet technique and supports continued growth in technique, musicality, flexibility, strength and performance. Students learn set exercises that are fun and engaging, and can work towards a formal assessment at the end of the year. Taught by highly qualified teachers with a Propel Dance Centre approach this class continues to promote body positivity and community, as well as celebrates student successes.
Ages 9-11, Grades 4-6 at school
This beginner to intermediate level class for "Tweenagers" has an emphasis on fun and is meant to empower young dancers. Rooted in modern and contemporary dance, students will learn basic steps and choreography and have a chance to create their own work through guided improvisations.
